The University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on two projects related to the neuromechanics of musculoskeletal injuries. The main project investigates the sensorimotor alterations following ACL injury within the context of recent motor control theories, using motion capture, bipolar and high-density surface EMGs. The other project focuses on running biomechanics, analyzing how different types of specialized shoes (i.e. running spikes) affect movement execution, muscle coordination, and ultimately the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Technical approach
3D motion capture system (marker-based and markerless), Bipolar EMG, High-density EMG

Qualification

  • You hold a PhD in a discipline related to motor control, biomechanics, or movement science
  • You are motivated, self-driven, curious, and a good team player
  • Preferred technical skills: Matlab or Python programming
  • Desirable experience: motion capture system, bipolar and high-density EMG, knowledge of biomechanics
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English

What we offer
By joining the team, you will:

  • aim at publishing on high-impact journals and applying for more independent funding
  • receive technical training to develop the skills needed for the project
  • receive training in scientific writing and other soft skills
  • gross salary of € 40,000 for 12 months

Research team
The team led by Prof. Cristiano Alessandro investigates the neuromechanics of human movement, and in particular the sensorimotor alterations following musculoskeletal injuries using a multidisciplinary approach that combines experimental with computational methods. These studies have applications in sport science, sport medicine and rehabilitation.
Prof. Alessandro is Associate Professor in Sport Science at the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milano-Bicocca. Within the University, the team collaborates tightly with the groups of Sport Medicine, Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine and Physical Therapy, enabling the development of interdisciplinary projects in both basic and translational science. The University of Milano-Bicocca is a young and vibrant institution, consistently listed amongst the best emerging universities in Italy for both research and teaching.
